Contemporary Amperex Energy Service Technology Ltd. (CAES), a wholly owned subsidiary of Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. (CATL), will feature a modular battery replacement on January 18, said Chen Weifeng, general manager of CAES. The battery replacement solution EVOGO, which will be used by the company, was released at the company's first online presentation. EVOGO consists of a battery block, a fast battery exchange station and an app, and will be rolled out in 10 cities initially.

▽Innovative modular battery replacement solution breathes new life into the market

To solve the problems of mileage anxiety, inconvenient refueling, and high total cost of ownership, CAES unveiled an innovative modular battery replacement solution at an online presentation on the 18th. By separating the vehicle and the battery, CAES considers the battery as a shared product, offering a completely new experience to the market.

Choco-SEB (Swapping Electric Block), designed to look like a chocolate bar, is a mass-produced battery specially developed for EV battery sharing. It has the advantage of high energy density with small, flexible combination and minimalist design.

By using the latest CTP (cell to pack) technology, we have achieved a gravimetric energy density of 160 Wh/kg or more and a volumetric energy density of 325 Wh/L, enabling a driving range of 200 kilometers with one block.

Meanwhile, Choco-SEB is compatible with 80% of the BEV platform-based vehicles on the market globally, and will be compatible with all BEV platform-based vehicles that will be launched globally in the next three years.

Customers can freely carry 1 to 3 blocks to meet different mileage requirements at exchange stations.

In addition, the pioneering Choco-SEB with wireless BMS technology has no external components other than high-voltage positive and negative terminals, greatly improving the reliability of the plug.

The battery exchange station features high compatibility, battery rental according to needs, and mutual complementarity with charging services. A standard EVOGO battery exchange station has an area equivalent to three parking spaces and can accommodate up to 48 Choco-SEBs. It can be exchanged in one minute for one battery block, ensuring that customers can be provided with a full battery charge at any time without long waiting times. In addition, EVOGO offers a variety of exchange stations adapted to different climates.

The app connects customers with EVOGO's various modules, enabling connectivity between customers, vehicles, stations, batteries, and provides other services.

▽ High compatibility, battery rental according to needs, mutual complementarity of charging services

EVOGO offers innovative two compatibility modes, unlike traditional battery replacement solutions. The Choco-SEB is designed to accommodate a wide range of Class A00, Class B and Class C passenger cars to logistics vehicles. At the same time, the exchange station is compatible with all car models from different OEMs that use Choco-SEB, allowing users to freely choose the car model for battery replacement.

In fact, most car owners tend to buy larger-capacity EVs to alleviate mileage concerns. However, in normal daily life, about 10 to 20% of the total capacity is required. We have paid high sunk costs for power capacity that we hardly need.

To solve this problem, EVOGO allows customers to choose the number of battery blocks to rent according to their driving conditions and habits. Customers can rent one block for commuting to the city center and two to three blocks for long trips, and then exchange for one block after returning to the city from the long trip.

Vehicles equipped with Choco-SEB support both charging and battery replacement. EVOGO can be used with existing home chargers and quick chargers as a power supply solution for all occasions.
